Seeking students currently enrolled in graduate level studies in the fields of nutrition or public health or in a dietetic internship program for eight-week internship with organization promoting plant-based diets.
About the Physicians Committee
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is dedicated to saving and improving human and animal lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research. Our vision is to create a healthier world through a new emphasis on plant-based nutrition, and scientific research conducted ethically, without using animals. We invite you to visit our YouTube channel, our website, and Physicians Committee president Dr. Neal Barnard's blog.
About the Physicians Committee's Nutrition Team
Over the past three decades, the Physicians Committee's nutrition department has achieved many important successes. We have contributed to the elimination of the "meat group" in federal nutrition guidelines, carried out clinical research studies that have revolutionized the treatment of diabetes, and provided the scientific foundation for the health benefits of plant-based diets. We aim to propel continued progress through direct patient care, nutrition education, and advocacy.
About this Internship Opportunity
The Susan Levin Nutrition Intern will work with the nutrition team on local and federal nutrition-related policies and developing nutrition education resources, campaigns, and programs. Learning opportunities may also include:
- Supporting educational programs such as the Food for Life and Let's Beat Breast Cancer programs
- Developing educational materials and presentations
- Assisting with literature reviews
- Assisting with recipe development
- Representing the Physicians Committee at events
Interns may also have the opportunity to participate in campaign events, staff education sessions, events on Capitol Hill, and other Physicians Committee activities. All interns will receive an orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor. Interns who are in dietetic internship programs will be mentored by one of our registered dietitians.
Participating in this internship is a valuable opportunity to work with an organization at the forefront of the movement to change the way doctors, dietitians, and other health professionals treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. It honors the late Susan Levin, MS, RD, CSSD, who served as the Physicians Committee's Director of Nutrition Education for 17 years. Susan Levin fought long and hard for better health and nutrition, not only for the patients under her care and for the participants in the programs she led, but for society as a whole.
